You think you’ve got plenty of time, you actually\u00a0do<\/em> have plenty of time, and then the production crosses the rubicon and you realise that opening night is less than three weeks away<\/em> – that’s less than the total number of digits on your body, which means that \u00a0it’s not far away at all<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yes: panic and hysteria are never far away from this writer.<\/p>\n

Yes: this writer has full confidence in the team his producer has thrown together – haven’t you been reading his rehearsal reports? \u00a0He thinks they’re just\u00a0awesome<\/em>.<\/p>\n

So you’re wondering what the hell my problem is. \u00a0I’ve attended most of the rehearsals so far, catching the odd word like\u00a0provocation<\/em> and\u00a0motivation<\/em> here and there,\u00a0<\/em>and the directors and actors haven’t been referring all that much to the script<\/strong>. \u00a0Y’know, the 95-pages I\u00a0slaved<\/em> over, foregoing countless hours of\u00a0Call of Duty<\/em> and\u00a0Left 4 Dead<\/em>, a belated catch up with\u00a0The Sopranos<\/em> and\u00a0Deadwood<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I think the real reason for my anxiety is that I’m experiencing in real-time and -life the once vicarious thrill and frisson<\/em> of being in the middle of something bigger, something of which I can only discern a small part – not unlike the jollies I get with each rewatching of The Wire<\/a> or laboriously rereading of my Alan Moore<\/a> collection.<\/p>\n

Yeah, that feeling<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s a little scary. \u00a0But it’s exciting. \u00a0And the esprit de corps of the team is positively cuddly.<\/p>\n
