Besides the decidedly age-based concern about the amount of (inevitable) real estate damage in the final showdown, I couldn&#8217;t help thinking about the little people. (I wasn&#8217;t alone <a href=\"http:\/\/funeralsandsnakes.net\/2013\/07\/02\/review-man-of-steel-everybody-has-a-plan-and-white-lies\/\" target=\"_blank\">either<\/a>.) As buildings were pulped and dust billowed every-which-post-9\/11-way, I kept flashing on this film:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodchicago.com\/reviews\/17333\/latest-found-footage-fanboy-film-chronicle-is-aimlessly-lost\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.hollywoodchicago.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/chronicle1.jpg?resize=525%2C293\" width=\"525\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By chance, the aiga had watched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1706593\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chronicle<\/a> the week before &#8211; and during <i>that<\/i> film&#8217;s climactic showdown I was flashing on this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miraclemen.info\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/miraclemen.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/1512.jpg?resize=525%2C813\" width=\"525\" height=\"813\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yes, <b>Alan Moore<\/b>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/sequart.org\/magazine\/6473\/why-miracleman-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\">Miracleman<\/a>. \u00a0I doubt we&#8217;ll see any film or television adaptation of this revisionist beast (a protracted <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marvelman#The_ownership_of_Marvelman_and_the_character.27s_future\" target=\"_blank\">rights wrangle<\/a>\u00a0is approaching its twentieth anniversary) but <i>Chronicle<\/i>&#8216;s tale of three friends who gain superpowers and whose good intentions go wrong not just for them but for the puny humans around them, is a nice and engaging substitute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saw Man of Steel with The Boy a couple of months back.
