Last Thursday I went along to the SWANZ awards, cheering for the competition because that was the only way I could deal with the pressure&#8230; and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatestigmata.com\" target=\"_blank\">Goodbye My Feleni<\/a> won. \u00a0And the night itself, viewed in the preceding fortnight with dread and anxiety, turned out to be a very pleasant evening indeed.<\/p>\n<p>I got to meet and talk with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>playwrights\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dean_Parker\" target=\"_blank\">Dean Parker<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Briar_Grace-Smith\" target=\"_blank\">Briar Grace-Smith<\/a>*;<\/li>\n<li>Unproduced Feature Film Script finalists <b>Blair Soper<\/b> and <b>Simon McCarthy<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li>big- and small-screen screenwriters\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzonscreen.com\/person\/nick-ward\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Ward<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kathryn-burnett.com\" target=\"_blank\">Kathryn Burnett<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzonscreen.com\/person\/james-griffin\" target=\"_blank\">James Griffin<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>producers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.severe.co.nz\" target=\"_blank\">Leanne Saunders<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tauihumedia.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\">Tui Ruwhiu<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paepae.co.nz\/about-us\/members\/kathryn-akuhata-brown\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kath Akuhata-Brown<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.godwitfilms.co.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Macey<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzfilm.co.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\">Commish<\/a> exec <b>Chris Payne<\/b>,\u00a0<i>Motel<\/i> director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toddrippon.com\" target=\"_blank\">Todd Rippon<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scriptease.info\" target=\"_blank\">Scriptease<\/a>&#8216;s <b>Jane Sherning Warren<\/b>;<\/li>\n<li>and fellow recipients <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelbennett.co.nz\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Bennett<\/a> (Best Factual Script &#8211; <i>The Confessions of Prisoner T<\/i>), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theweightofelephants.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Joseph Borgman<\/a> (New Writer Award), and <a href=\"http:\/\/tawata.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hone Kouka<\/a> (NZWG Mentorship Award).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ahh, networking.
