I have described various parts of it with fortress-like words (like\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2013\/03\/09\/the-kitten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">armoury<\/a>) \u2014 all of the parts exist\u2026 but in a real-world\u00a0Kiwi\u00a0quarter-acre\u00a0section and house kind of way. (Hey, what did you expect? I&#8217;m a writer.)<\/p>\n<p>And the reason for this moment of truth is that the\u00a0inhabitants of Fortress Mamea are leaving West Auckland and moving north\u00a0where \u2014\u00a0with, as always, the\u00a0<strong>Goddess&#8217;<\/strong> indulgence \u2014 a\u00a0new\u00a0home has been established.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the rolling hills outside of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Whangarei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Whangarei<\/a>, the new, more substantial and redoubtable\u00a0<strong>Fortress Mamea<\/strong> is\u00a0over fourteen\u00a0acres of land, bounded on three sides by a <del>moat<\/del> stream, and includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>paddocks for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2014\/08\/31\/hi-yo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cavalry troop<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>airfield and hangar for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/tag\/chickens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">close air support element<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>one defensible official entry point, easily upgradeable with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dragon%27s_teeth_(fortification)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dragon&#8217;s teeth<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arrowslit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">balistraria<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>at least 500 square metres of <del>arable land<\/del> gardens, orchards and \u2026 edible-stuff-growing areas;<\/li>\n<li>and nine acres of woodland for <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2013\/11\/29\/as-threatened\/#manoeuvres\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">company-size manoeuvres<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4294\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4294\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_0093.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4294\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_0093-480x640.jpg?resize=480%2C640\" alt=\"The Wood\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_0093.jpg?resize=480%2C640&amp;ssl=1 480w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_0093.jpg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4294\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There&#8217;s <em>acres<\/em> of this stuff.
