After a two-day workshop under the direction of Katie Wolfe<\/a> and Ahi Karunaharan<\/a>, with dramaturg Jo\u00a0Smith<\/strong> providing overwatch, Kingswood<\/em> was read by Jason Te Kare<\/a>, Louise Tu’u<\/a>, Joy Vaele<\/a>, and Jason Wu<\/a> on a warm Wednesday evening in Balmoral, Auckland.<\/p>\n

The audience laughed in the right places, their applause was gratifying, and the Q-and-A that followed was enlightening for all present. Afterwards, it was nice to chat with individual audience members like: Auckland Theatre Company<\/a> artistic director Colin McColl<\/a>; Bright Star <\/em>and Pasefika <\/em>playwright and Playmarket respresentative Stuart Hoar<\/a>; the indomitable Webmistresse<\/a> (retired) and her husband; Luncheon<\/em> and Officer 27<\/em> playwright Aroha Awarau<\/strong>; screenwriter Kathryn Burnett<\/a>; and Titirangi Theatre<\/a> stalwart and early supporter of the work Duncan Milne<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the two-day workshop, these four words were used to describe “Kingswood” \u2014 and upon hearing them I felt inordinately proud.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
