and<\/li>\n<li>I write the final act in a creative deluge that&#8217;s equal parts excitement and desperation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of this awfully quick process, I show my efforts to <strong>The Goddess<\/strong>, certain that, in that moment and on that day, <em>My Work Here Is Done.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Nah-ah<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve only written a beginning and an ending.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no <em>journey<\/em>, no <em>arc<\/em>, no incremental building of <em>character<\/em> or <em>drama<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Just a \u2014<\/p>\n<div class=\"scrippet\">\n<p class=\"transition\">FADE IN:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 and a \u2014<\/p>\n<div class=\"scrippet\">\n<p class=\"transition\">FADE OUT.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>I have to work at my ending \u2014 not just fine tune how the music swells, and tweak the moment when I want tears to form in the audience&#8217;s eyes \u2014 I have to build up to it.<\/p>\n<p>I have to <em>write the rest of the damned thing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But at least I know where the story starts and ends.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Richard Giles from Perth, Australia &#8211;
