Okay, so all I’ve got is a beginning and ending<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No problem<\/em>, I tell myself. I’ve no idea specifically <\/strong>what happens between the beginning and ending I’ve written but all I need do is reread what I have a few times to get a sense of the direction<\/strong> my subconscious is heading in, then catch the Narrative Momentum Train that’s due just as that last “CUT TO” hits.<\/em><\/p>\n

I begin with high spirits \u2014<\/p>\n

CUT TO:<\/p>\n

EXT. THE PLANET MARS -- TIMELESS<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2014 then have second thoughts about the direction \u2014<\/p>\n

\n

CUT TO:<\/p>\n

INT. HOME -- NIGHT<\/p>\n

... dammit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2014 until I find myself staring at something like this:<\/p>\n

\n

CUT TO:<\/p>\n

INT. PHUCKNOSE H.Q. -- I-HAVE-STOPPED-CARING TIME<\/p>\n

... shit happens.<\/p>\n

Dammitdammitdammitdammit<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

No hay problema<\/em>, I tell myself. I’ve got a vague idea of how things got to the ending that I’ve written \u2014 all I have to do is work backwards<\/strong> from there because some<\/strong> kind of inevitable logic has led to the ending I’ve written, and hallelujah, all the clues are in the first act.<\/em><\/p>\n

I get cracking, determined to fill this:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

CUT TO:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2014 with action, character and plot.<\/p>\n

Alas, after some amount of time has elapsed, all I have to show is this:<\/p>\n

... something interesting should lead up to this point.<\/p>\n

I have no idea what.<\/p>\n

I hate this script.<\/p>\n

CUT TO:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Right, then<\/em>, I grimace to myself, time to break out the big guns.<\/em><\/p>\n

But first, a little time out with some youtubing.<\/em><\/p>\n
