It was\u00a0the second network-y thing I&#8217;ve done this year (ah yes, I neglected to mention I attended\u00a0the 2016 <a href=\"http:\/\/tourmakers.co.nz\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">PANNZ<\/a> Arts Market in Wellington in March).<\/p>\n<p>Cue shameless name-dropping as I saw:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alice,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Fritha<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Pippa\u00a0<\/strong>from\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzwg.org.nz\" target=\"_blank\">guild<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Leanne<\/strong>, <strong>Selina<\/strong>, <strong>Christina<\/strong>, <strong>Karin<\/strong>, <strong>Jasmin<\/strong> and <strong>Chris<\/strong> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzfilm.co.nz\" target=\"_blank\">commish<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>the gentlemen behind the smash hit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.threewisecousins.com\" target=\"_blank\">Three Wise Cousins<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>multiple Adam Award-winning playwright <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playmarket.org.nz\/news\/powerful-t%C5%ABhoe-epic-takes-top-award\" target=\"_blank\">Maraea Rakuraku<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aaron<\/strong>, <strong>Ali<\/strong> and <strong>Arnette<\/strong> from <a href=\"http:\/\/pift.co.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\">PIFT<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoria.ac.nz\/modernletters\" target=\"_blank\">IIML<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.weshouldpractice.com\" target=\"_blank\">Louise<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Katie_Wolfe\" target=\"_blank\">Katie<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2016\/03\/09\/kingswood-a-reading\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kingswood reading<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>and dined\u00a0with <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/?s=benedict+reid\" target=\"_blank\">Mr Reid<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm2003750\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mr Barr<\/a>, and several other gentlemen whose names I neglected to write down (sorry, I had a beer in one hand and a naan in the other).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for the speakers, highlights were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>creative couple <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0795153\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cate Shortland<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>Somersault<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Slap<\/em>)\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1097974\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Krawitz<\/a>\u00a0(<em>Devil&#8217;s Playground<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Kettering Incident<\/em>)\u00a0on writing and directing Australian television drama;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jonathan_Raymond\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathon Raymond<\/a> on\u00a0screenwriting for <strong>Kelly Reichardt<\/strong> (<em>Wendy and Lucy,<\/em>\u00a0<em>Meek&#8217;s Cutoff<\/em>) and <strong>Todd Haynes<\/strong> (<em>Far From Heaven<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Mildred Pierce<\/em>); and<\/li>\n<li>producer and BSS keynote speaker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heather_Rae\" target=\"_blank\">Heather Rae<\/a>\u00a0(<em>Frozen River<\/em>)\u00a0on decolonising the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nice work, all around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Late last month\u00a0I attended the 2016 Big Screen Symposium in Auckland.
