{"id":4763,"date":"2016-11-23T12:00:26","date_gmt":"2016-11-22T23:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/?p=4763"},"modified":"2016-12-09T22:49:55","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T09:49:55","slug":"one-more-schmooze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/one-more-schmooze\/","title":{"rendered":"One More Schmooze"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.officespaceauckland.co.nz\/images\/1024x700\/gallery3\/1029\/99qnst-nov2015_007.jpg?resize=525%2C358\" width=\"525\" height=\"358\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Playmarket Auckland: F5, 99 Queen Street, CBD.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The other week, I went to the changing of the guard at the Auckland <a href=\"http:\/\/www.playmarket.org.nz\" target=\"_blank\">Playmarket<\/a> office: <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/?s=stuart+hoar\" target=\"_blank\">Stuart Hoar<\/a> is moving on to less reading (of other people&#8217;s writing) and\u00a0more writing (of his own)\u00a0(which is as it should be), and will\u00a0be replaced by\u00a0<strong>Allison Horsley<\/strong>, formerly Court Theatre Literary Manager.<\/p>\n<p>There was food and drink on hand,\u00a0and there were a few more familiar faces than I expected \u2014\u00a0should be no surprise after being in this writing gig for so long, but still \u2014and the hour I had set aside to pay my respects\u00a0very quickly became almost two hours of catching up and talking with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jo Smith<\/strong>, recent <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/tag\/kingswood\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kingswood dramaturg<\/a>, whose upcoming writing projects I look forward to;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Philippa Campbell<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atc.co.nz\" target=\"_blank\">Auckland Theatre Company<\/a> literary manager (and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0132788\/\" target=\"_blank\">film and television producer<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roy Ward<\/strong>, current freelance theatre director and, although I should let it go, will forever be the person who rejected my application to write for\u00a0<em>Shortland Street<\/em>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Murray Lynch<\/strong>, Playmarket big cheese;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sam_Brooks_(dramatist)\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Brooks<\/a>, dramatist, critic and man-about-town (I didn&#8217;t actually talk to him \u2014 but I\u00a0waved as he flew by);<\/li>\n<li>and the very lovely <strong>Roger and Dianne Hall<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 yes, that <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roger_Hall\" target=\"_blank\">Mr Hall<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 and he was refreshingly to-the-point with our brief discussion on\u00a0writing for theatre and developing audiences in competition with the <a href=\"http:\/\/csglobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/The-zombie-apocalypse-is-already-here.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">small, small screen<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This has been quite a year for\u00a0shoulder-rubbing and such: there was the <a href=\"http:\/\/pannz.org.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Arts Market<\/a> in Wellington*, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2016\/09\/27\/firebug-another-pilot-script\/\" target=\"_blank\">SWANZ Awards<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2016\/10\/09\/bss\/\" target=\"_blank\">Big Screen Symposium<\/a> in Auckland, not to mention a workshop <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2016\/03\/30\/kingswood-post-reading\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/2016\/11\/06\/still-life-with-chickens-a-clinic\/\" target=\"_blank\">there<\/a>. It might explain why I&#8217;m a little frazzled.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s going to be more of it in 2017 and, somehow,\u00a0I&#8217;m rather looking forward to it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* I don&#8217;t know why I didn&#8217;t blog about this.
