{"id":5382,"date":"2018-06-20T09:45:55","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T21:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/?p=5382"},"modified":"2018-07-23T10:58:06","modified_gmt":"2018-07-22T22:58:06","slug":"home-alone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/home-alone\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5383\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5383\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5383 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Bond-Street-Wellington-14-June-2018.jpg?resize=480%2C640\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5383\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wellington by night.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I suppose it&#8217;s an <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/17\/home-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">annual pilgrimage<\/a>: as Matariki descends upon this lush nation, I take myself to my hometoon of Wellington for a bit of colour and culture. <strong>The Lovely Wife<\/strong> didn&#8217;t accompany me this year as our schedules didn&#8217;t work out (and we&#8217;d been down this way <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/2018\/05\/30\/still-life-with-chickens-final-week-in-wellington\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only a few weeks earlier<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>This time around I:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>saw <a href=\"https:\/\/kiamaufestival.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kia Mau Festival<\/a> highlights Taki Rua&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.takirua.co.nz\/he-kura-e-huna-ana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">He Kura e Huna Ana<\/a> and the premiere season of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatreview.org.nz\/reviews\/review.php?id=11121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deer Woman<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>attended a Playwrights Hui where I \u2014\n<ul>\n<li>had the pleasure of meeting <strong>Tara Beagan<\/strong> (Canada), <strong>Jorjia Gillis<\/strong> (Australia), <strong>Lily Shearer<\/strong> (Australia), <strong>Mitch Tawhi Thomas<\/strong> (Wellington), and <strong>Jason Te Mete<\/strong> (Auckland);<\/li>\n<li>and caught up with <strong>Ali Foa&#8217;i<\/strong>, <strong>M\u012bria George<\/strong>, <strong>Natano Keni<\/strong>, <strong>Hone Kouka<\/strong>, <strong>Jamie McCaskill<\/strong>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/ilbijerri.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ilbijerri&#8217;s<\/a> <strong>Rachel Maza<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>and, outside Kia Mau events, met with various Wellington residents about <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/?s=kingswood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one thing<\/a> or another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unlike last year there was no dining at the usual, nor a Mamea family catch-up, but it was a productive trip, and my hometown is always <i>always<\/i> fun to visit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I suppose it&#8217;s an annual pilgrimage: as Matariki descends upon this lush nation, I take myself to my hometoon of Wellington for a bit of colour and culture.
