Besides my usual grizzling about the complete lack of any mention of writers, something struck me about the large cast:  where are the brothers or sisters?<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a screen-grab:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/images\/TheCult.jpg\" title=\"The Cult\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"651\" height=\"372\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Okay, there&#8217;s maybe a sister at the far right, peering around a tree but this is New Zild drama, right?  And if they&#8217;re gonna namedrop <i>Lost<\/i>, I believe that show has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>two black guys,<\/li>\n<li>a Korean couple,<\/li>\n<li>an Indian guy,<\/li>\n<li>a couple of Hispanics,<\/li>\n<li>and an Australian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a quick run-down of the Mamea Household&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/?s=%22box+watch%22\">Box Watch<\/a>-list:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i>Law &#038; Order<\/i> now has <i>three<\/i> black detectives;<\/li>\n<li><i>Dexter<\/i> and <i>The Closer<\/i> each have a black cop, a Hispanic cop, and an Asian technician (<i>Dexter<\/i>) or cop (<i>Closer<\/i>);<\/li>\n<li><i>Battlestar Galactica<\/i> has a Hispanic leader, an Asian pilot and a black bad cylon;<\/li>\n<li><i>The Wire<\/i>&#8216;s ethnicity is slanted towards blacks;<\/li>\n<li><i>Better Off Ted<\/i> has a black scientist;<\/li>\n<li><i>Dead Like Me<\/i> has a Hispanic reaper;<\/li>\n<li><i>Fringe<\/i> has a black supervisor;<\/li>\n<li><i>Law &#038; Order UK<\/i> has a black lawyer;<\/li>\n<li><i>Desperate Housewives<\/i> has a Hispanic couple.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Meanwhile, if <i>The Cult<\/i>&#8216;s publicity shot is anything to go by, its cast has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>no brothers, and<\/li>\n<li>maybe a sister<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> &#8211; but since she&#8217;s hugging a tree maybe she&#8217;s the comic relief &#8211; or the first one to die.<\/p>\n<p>If this is &#8216;New Zealand on air&#8217;, I don&#8217;t recognise it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Herald Time Out had a write up about an upcoming homemade drama, The Cult.
