{"id":82,"date":"2007-09-18T20:15:10","date_gmt":"2007-09-18T08:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/2007\/09\/18\/less-is-more\/"},"modified":"2012-07-31T09:40:40","modified_gmt":"2012-07-30T21:40:40","slug":"less-is-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/less-is-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Less is More"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finally saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0440963\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Bourne Ultimatum<\/a>, quite enjoyed it, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/26\/the-bourne-ultimatum\/\">and I didn&#8217;t even notice the camera-work and editing<\/a><\/em>. <strong>That&#8217;s<\/strong> story-telling.<\/p>\n<p>One exchange in particular struck me: after Bourne (the impressively impassive yet still sympathetic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000354\/\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Damon<\/a>) traverses seemingly half of Tangier by roof to save Nicky Parsons (a vulnerable but believably plucky <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0005466\/\" target=\"_blank\">Julia Stiles<\/a>) &#8211;<\/p>\n<div class=\"scrippet\">\n<p class=\"character\">BOURNE<\/p>\n<p class=\"dialogue\">Why are you helping me?<\/p>\n<p class=\"character\">NICKY<\/p>\n<p class=\"dialogue\">It was difficult&#46;&#46;&#46; for me&#46;&#46;&#46; with you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"parenthetical\">(off Bourne)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dialogue\">You&#46;&#46;&#46; really don&#8217;t remember, do you?<\/p>\n<p class=\"character\">BOURNE<\/p>\n<p class=\"dialogue\">&#46;&#46;&#46; No.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>From onlooker in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0258463\/\" target=\"_blank\">Identity<\/a> to unwilling participant in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0372183\/\" target=\"_blank\">Supremacy<\/a>, and now full-fledged helper in <em>Ultimatum<\/em>, was Nicky his sweetheart once upon a time? Was there some swooning from afar that&#8217;s on the cutting room floor from the preceding two films? <em>What is she on about?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>It doesn&#8217;t matter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, of <em>course<\/em> I&#8217;d love to know. Or maybe I&#8217;m just exceedingly grateful to have been spared something like this &#8211;<\/p>\n<div class=\"scrippet\">\n<p class=\"character\">NICKY<\/p>\n<p class=\"dialogue\">I&#8217;ve loved you. I&#8217;ve always loved you. But you were always running around, trying to stay alive. I thought I lost you when you took up with that Kraut floozy but I was down with that. But now that it&#8217;s&#46;&#46;&#46; it&#8217;s just you&#46;&#46;&#46; and me&#46;&#46;&#46;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Messrs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0510731\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liman<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0006904\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gilroy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0339030\/\" target=\"_blank\">Greengrass<\/a> &#8211; <em>thank you<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finally saw The Bourne Ultimatum, quite enjoyed it, and I didn&#8217;t even notice the camera-work and editing.
