WRITER<\/p>\n

(brightly)<\/p>\n

Kia ora!<\/p>\n

Phil stops and extends his hand to our Writer:<\/p>\n

PHIL<\/p>\n

Kia ora.<\/p>\n

Writer stands and takes Phil’s hand in greeting but then WE GO TO SLO-MO FLASHES as --<\/p>\n

-- Phil won’t let Writer’s hand go --<\/p>\n

-- Writer notices that’s he’s being pulled towards Phil by the handshake --<\/p>\n

-- Phil drops his head slightly --<\/p>\n

-- Writer, hoping the increasing alarm on his face hasn’t shown in these microseconds, realises what’s happening and --<\/p>\n

-- Writer drops his head slightly --<\/p>\n

-- Phil and Writer hongi --<\/p>\n

-- and REALTIME RESUMES as the greeting finishes.<\/p>\n

WRITER<\/p>\n

Welcome. But you’ve got the wrong ethnicity. I’m Samoan.<\/p>\n

Without missing a beat:<\/p>\n

PHIL<\/p>\n

Ah ha – well, talofa lava.<\/p>\n

-- and as suddenly as he arrived, Phil’s gone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Not often one meets The Man Who<\/i>. And gets to namedrop so.<\/p>\n

\nMr Goff<\/a> is leader of the Labour Party.<\/p>\n
