{"id":878,"date":"2009-12-21T21:00:45","date_gmt":"2009-12-21T08:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/?p=878"},"modified":"2009-12-21T21:00:45","modified_gmt":"2009-12-21T08:00:45","slug":"focus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/focus\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I should know better.<\/p>\n<p>But no, I go and <a href=\"http:\/\/dfmamea.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/22\/vacuum\/\">brag<\/a> about Things I Have Done and how a sweet idea just fell in my lap &#8211; and now I find myself standing in a growing pile of recycled A4 sheets peppered with handwriting.  These aren&#8217;t notes on just that one project but (counts titles) &#8211; <i>holy moley<\/i>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an opening for a one-act theatre monologue that&#8217;s all atmosphere and not a single word of dialogue;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>an opening scene and some random character- and concept-notes for a TV drama;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>pages of bullet points listing wants and not-wants for a feature;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>a concept document and anaemic scriptment for a play;<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>and &#8211; oh yeah &#8211; pages and pages on that &#8216;sweet&#8217; project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And that&#8217;s not all.  There&#8217;s more where those came from.  I&#8217;m serious.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;S nothing like the early-early-<i>early<\/i> days of development where the promise of the concept seems within easy reach and all those querulous voices in the back of your head are easily silenced with, <i>She&#8217;ll be right<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>I know.<\/p>\n<p><b>I know.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll choose <i>one<\/i> &#8211; the &#8216;sweet&#8217; proj&#8217;, natch &#8211; to actually <i>write<\/i>.  With another project as a fallback.  And another to develop in between times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I should know better.
